Michael Egan Signs On To "Tandori Apocalypse"

Michael Egan with Ghastly Fun Films has entered into a co-production deal on Barry Duffield's feature script "Tandoori Apocalypse" after discovering it on InkTip. Egan, based in Australia, read the script and contacted Duffield, who just happened to be optioning the script to producer Kristian Eek, who is based in New Zealand. Egan and Eek then decided to work together toward a co-production deal. Egan last optioned a script from InkTip entitled "Blood-Sucking Leeches & Flesh-Eating Maggots." For writer Barry Duffield, this is his sixth option.

Evers was actually found and signed by Whitt Brantley with WBMT Literary, Film and Television, who was browsing the site for material he could sell to his clients. The script with the lengthy but oddly memorable title has won or placed high in over twenty five contests, including the Nicholl Fellowship (top 7%) and the Sundance Lab (top 10%). You may recall we mentioned this a few months ago, when the option negotiation was underway; well, it's now complete. Multiple ASC award winner William Wages is attached as DP with Don Cato set to direct, so we're looking forward to mentioning this one again after the holidays, with a big name on board

The project, titled "Karate Cops," was announced at the American Film Market and covered in an article in The Hollywood Reporter last week. Karate Cops, the first of a three picture slate to be produced by Birzneck and Reyes Jr., is about a pair of detectives battling a super-villain who is trying to take over a mystical martial arts kingdom in Chinatown, and is scheduled to shoot in San Francisco in April. This is Cody's second feature deal through InkTip.

He just directed the feature "1,001 Ways to Enjoy the Missionary Position" based on a stage play and starring Amanda Plummer. Alexia is a long-time InkTip member who reps international writers, directors and other producers, as well as produces feature films through her production entity, Little Studio Films. Since that one went on to make $141million, Sanchez did another innovative horror/thriller titled "Altered," which we featured on the cover of the InkTip Magazine as it was written by Jamie Nash. Short "The Pool" is Produced

Thomas Hefferon produced the short script "The Pool" by TJ Hundtofte after discovering TJ on InkTip. Thomas originally found a different script by TJ, but was drawn to "The Pool". After a few rewrites together, they submitted it for state funding in Ireland. Out of over 300 people they were chosen as one of three to make the film and were given a grant. The film was finished in February and was accepted into the prestigious 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. Since then it has played at seven other major festivals including Palm Springs, Newport Beach, the Galway Film Fleadh in Ireland and the Rushes Soho Film Festival, where it won the runners up prize in the International category. In February of this year Thomas and TJ wrote a new short entitled, "Switch." Again they submitted it for Irish state funding, and it was chosen! Shooting began at the end of September.

David Broyles was the director, and it was screened at eight film festivals including the Austin Film Festival in 2009. Shawn Booth has many credits as a working DP and director, including the series "Lost," the hilarious Rob Scheider film "Naked Dawn," and his own films. At seventeen years of age, Shawn began his shooting career as a combat photojournalist in the US army, capturing Bosnia in 1994-95. The Texas native has also worked on such films as "SWAT", "Thirteen" and "National Treasure."

The project has Chloe Moretz ("Kick-Ass," "Let Me In") to star and Karyn Kusama ("Aeon Flux," "Jennifer's Body") attached to direct. Magnani was also a producer on the feature "Iron Doors," which was discovered on InkTip and featured on the cover of the InkTip magazine this summer and is also producing multiple projects both on his own and with prolific producer, Don Murphy, who has produced such diverse films as "Natural Born Killers" and "Transformers." With Rich Newey, Caruso previously co-wrote the feature "I Tried," starring legendary rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. Newey found Caruso through InkTip.

This week at the Toronto Film Festival, Peter Fonda will be announcing his involvement as producer and lead actor for a script which was discovered on InkTip. Joe Eckardt with Rock On! Rainwater Takes on "Sugar"

Rotimi Rainwater with Village Entertainment is collaborating on yet another project, this one titled "Sugar," with writer Tony Aloupis whom he met through InkTip. You might remember reading about them in the trades, Rotimi originally discovered and optioned one of Aloupis' scripts on InkTip titled "Truckstop." He's been developing and packaging the project with Graham Taylor at Endeavor Independent handling financing and distribution. Rotimi has since put together or gotten hired on to a number of different projects with Tony, including "The Meaning of Life," a documentary about the eponymous philosophical conundrum, "Conversations with Andy," a documentary/biopic about the life of Andy Warhol, and "Black Samurai," a reworking of the 1970's graphic novel, and blaxploitation film of the same name. Tony Aloupis is also serving as an Executive Producer on "The Meaning of Life," proving that directors can not only find scripts, but writers and partners through InkTip.

Barmettler, a producer/director whose credits include last year's "Beach Kings" (MGM/Fox Home Entertainment) and the 2007 cult "Alien Secrets" (Warner Entertainment/Polychrome Pictures) got his start as a writer, so he's picky when reviewing writing samples. But Dixon, a graduate of Chapman University's screenwriting program, had the right background and writing sample for Barmettler's project. Eduardo Sanchez finished "ParaAbnormal" the web series, which was written by Jamie Nash, whom he found through InkTip. You may already know some of Sanchez' work; he broke into the business back in '99 with a little film he wrote and directed for $60K titled "The Blair Witch Project." Since that one went on to make $141million, Sanchez did another innovative horror/thriller titled "Altered," which we featured on the cover of the InkTip Magazine as it was also written by Nash, with whom he first connected through InkTip. Sanchez and Nash have been working together ever since, and you can find some of the films they've made together on shelves at your local Blockbuster. "ParaAbnormal" was done as a new media experiment, and it went so well, they're hoping to do another season soon.

Mitchell Galin with Epiphany Productions optioned the broad audience spec "Grampa was a Superhero" from writers Chip Street and Sean Meehan, after finding it on InkTip. This was a good fit for Galin, a long-time industry insider whose credits include "Pet Sematary" and the Sci-Fi miniseries "Dune." Writing duo Street and Meehan have worked in a variety of capacities in film and television over the years, but according to Street, the secret to their success was more than just bringing their backgrounds to bear on the script itself. "Grampa was on InkTip for well over a year," Street related in a recent email. And even after Mitchell emailed them about it, "it was another six months before he was able to really read it and get back to us, during which time I kept in touch with him - but never asked if he'd read the script... it's about patience." And they've been patiently working on their next script, "Faeries," which is already a finalist at Shriekfest.

Director/producer Meryem Ersoz bought the feature thriller script "Out of the Mind's Eye" from InkTip writer Mark Daniels after finding it on InkTip. Meryem is a producer and partner in Red Pine Studios, where she has feature film, feature-length documentary, and national television broadcast experience. She is currently wrapping production on the "making of" featurette for the fantasy feature "Legend of the Seven Swords," which will debut at StarFest 2010 in April. Principal photography for "Out of the Mind's Eye" will take place in May 2011. This latest deal is Mark's seventh feature success through InkTip, although it's interesting to note that it was an outright purchase, and not an option.

Producer Wendy Kram, after discovering the buddy comedy 'Hollywood Douche Bags,' by Gato Scatena and Jordan Rosner through InkTip, has optioned the script and is gearing up to take it out to the market place. Kram is a former VP with Hearst Entertainment and Granada Entertainment, and served as an executive for production companies based at Sony, Universal and Walt Disney Studios. She has developed and produced several films including "Mad Money" starring Diane Keaton, Katie Holmes and Queen Latifah, and worked on projects for such names as Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Ellen DeGeneres, among many others. The short film, which Scatena and Rosner posted on YouTube, not only drew her attention, but she will also use it to set meetings with studio and production executives this week. Bruce Lucas of Bruce Lucas Productions has optioned the feature script "19Hz" by best-selling non-fiction authors Marie D. Jones and Larry Flaxman after finding it through InkTip. Lucas, based out of New York, produced the 2003 short film "A Walk in the Dark" starring Mike McGlone ("The Brothers McMullen," "She's the One"). He calls Jones and Flaxman, authors of three books together, "brilliant writers." Lucas will be directing and co-producing the feature. This is the second script by Jones that Lucas optioned, and the first by Flaxman, so expect more announcements regarding these three in the future!

Lisa Demaine of Filmagic Entertainment, who initially discovered the script on the site and brought it to Malloy, will direct the feature, while Malloy, who just produced and starred in "The Alphabet Killer" (Eliza Dushku, Timothy Hutton) and "Love N' Dancing" (Amy Smart, Billy Zane and Betty White), will produce. Max Perrier of Peter Proffit Pictures has hired scribe Matthew Altman to rewrite the feature script "Feed the Devil" after finding him through InkTip. Perrier last directed the feature "The Ante," which won a Gold Remi award at "WorldFest Houston" in 2008. He read Altman's feature script "Djinn," and not only found a talented writer, but also a good match after Altman provided solid suggestions on improving the "Feed the Devil" script. Altman is fresh off of an option deal with another InkTip producer and has more spec scripts available on the site, including the script, "Djinn," which initially interested Perrier in his style.

"Blindsided" Hits Festival Circuit

"Blindsided," the short film produced by Mark Cabaroy with Big Life Production LLC and iMarkFilms that was discovered on InkTip, has just been accepted into the Rincon International Film Festival, the New Filmmakers New York (April 7th) and New Filmmakers LA (April 8th), the Staten Island Film Festival, and the Connecticut Film Festival. The Rincon International Film Festival is held in Rincon, Puerto Rico, April 20th through 25th. "Blindsided" was written by Bruce E. Johnson. Mark Cabaroy is a New York Filmmaker residing in the Bronx. He has won acclaim for his character driven stories, most recently he was noted in blackboxoffice.com top five black directors of 2009 for his feature "Life's Passing Me By." Although Bruce E. Johnson's life's work has been building multi-million dollar facilities for the Catholic Church, he is an insomniac with writer's blood coursing through his veins. All of his stories have a unique twist at the end and contain social and psychological circumstances.

Allan Harmon and Cynde Harmon of Really Real Films found the MOW script "Trust," on InkTip, which has now aired on TF1, Movie Central and Lifetime after Insight Films, in association with Really Real Films, completed production on it last year. The story, written by Jack Messitt, is about the wife (played by Jamie Luner of "All My Children") of a successful entrepreneur who receives a series of mysterious letters and emails, and must choose between searching for the author of these messages and investigating her husband's fidelity. Writer Messitt is no stranger to the feature film production process; a graduate of AFI, he has worked as a Director of Photography and Camera Operator on everything from feature films and television to music videos and reality shows (American Idol, Irreversi, Bones), and recently co-wrote and directed the horror feature "Midnight Movie."

UTA Signs InkTip Directing Duo

Directing duo Obin and Amariah Olson - the Olson Brothers - landed representation with UTA. This was due to the fact that the Olson Brothers found an excellent script on InkTip titled "Nevermore" and shot the trailer for it, which they submitted to UTA. Their talented interpretation of the project puts them in a unique and coveted position, as their new reps (Doug Johnston and Jason Burns) work alongside the agents behind such actors as Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, Seth Rogan, and the Olsen Twins. The trailer for "Nevermore" was really impressive, and now that they've taken this step in their careers, we're really looking forward to seeing what they do with the feature!

After looking on InkTip, Jonty Egginton has optioned the short script "Mother's Day" from scribe James Tuverson. Jonty has produced and edited the feature independent film "RH11", which represents the postal code where a group of six teenage boys grow up on a tough estate. James had this to say about Jonty, "He has an interesting story in the UK. Although just out of his teens, he has already filmed and produced the feature "RH11", which has gotten him significant media coverage for his accomplishments despite his age. After communicating with him over email, I couldn't help but want to help this young filmmaker develop this short screenplay for production." Jonty is looking forward to making "Mother's Day" a hard-hitting and thought-provoking film.
